Dear Members and Volunteers,
The YMCA of San Diego County is dedicated to improving the quality of human life and helping all people realize their fullest potential as children of God through the development of spirit, mind and body. Because we believe “There’s a Y in Every Family”, we strive to support family units throughout San Diego County.
One area in which the YMCA of San Diego County best supports families is in our before- and after-school child and youth development programming. Licensed by the State of California, YMCA Before- and After-School Child Care is regulated by health, safety and program quality standards. Staff must be 18 years old, have completed 12 college credits in child care related fields and undergone live scan fingerprint, physical & TB tests, child abuse and criminal record clearances. Staff members are also required to be First Aid and CPR certified. We offer quality, affordable, and dependable care at the school site, which makes for a safe and controlled environment. Students participate in homework time, team-building activities, indoor/outdoor activities, and arts & crafts all while enacting the Y’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Over the next 10 years the YMCA will further address our mission by focusing on strengthening families. The Y is committed to providing membership, programs, activities, facilities and resources to help families in San Diego County spend more time together. With just over one million households (and growing) in the county, the YMCA’s vision is to, among other things, extend support to families in need by providing services and financial assistance. With this 10-year vision, we will deliver outcome-driven family activities and social events with a goal of annual increases in the number of families playing, learning, getting healthy and helping others. Our child and youth development sites will host these activities as an expansion of the child and youth development programming that we offer.
With its reputation as a quality program, combined with the excitement of the YMCA’s future vision, the YMCA’s Before- and After-School Child Care program is leading the way for families searching for safe, effective, and fun options for their children. With the time and monetary support you donate, you help to bring these exciting child care opportunities to underserved populations in North County. You are a hero to many.
